MERCURY BAY CYCLING

Riding schedule for Cooks/Hahei for January/ February.

Monday ride: Inner Loop 50km
then out past Purangi Golf course turn right to Dalmeny corner. Return along Hot Water road to Hotty back out and
This ride is a favourite during the busy time from Christmas to end January. Coffee ??
Leave Hahei 7.30am. Ride down towards Purangi, pick up Cooks beach bunch head out past the golf course and head
bunch and reverse loop back around to Dalmeny and Hotty and around the loop and back to Hahei/Cooks. Option to go back to Hahei junction.
Leave Hahei 7.30am. Ride towards the Purangi and pick up Cooks beach riders head into Cooks around the bubs
Tuesday ride: Myundies: 93km, 1100m Climbing
on around to Whitianga. Take bypass and head to Kuaotunu and up Myundermans hill. (Optional)
Back to Luke's kitchen for coffee and then head home over on ferry back to Cooks/Hahei. If more distance required
head home the long way through Coroglen and get an extra 20km.
Wednesday ride: Reverse Whiti Ride: 60km, 450m Climbing
Leave Hahei 7.30 am. Head to Ferry Landing, pick up Cookies bunch at hall cross over to Whitianga pick up Whiti
cut out the Hotty Loop and go straight to ferry.
Meet at the Egg for coffee on the grass?
Thursday ride: Tairua, Tramway Hill: 93km, 1150m Climbing
Leave Hahei 7.30am. Pick up Cooks and Whiti bunch out past golf course head over to Tairua and head out to
Hikuai. Up Tramway and return. Coffee at Tairua. (Down to Opoutere turn off optional 10km).
Another option is to turn left at Prescott's Garage and into Pauanui and over on ferry to Tairua.
Friday Ride: Rest day or Inner loop 50km (Monday circuit)
Leave Hahei 7.30am
Saturday Ride: Whitianga and back 85 km, 700m Climbing
Coffee at Whiti, on ferry and home. 65km
Leave Hahei 7.30am
Sunday ride options: Leave Hahei 7.30am
Whangapoua:? 100km, 1100m Climbing.  To the ferry pick up Cooks and Whiti bunch to Whangapoua and return (Whangapoua hill or into Coromandel Optional)

Whangamata:? 130km, 1650m Climbing Or option around these Two Groups for the enjoyment of all.
Wild Bunch Average 28km Plus Mild Bunch
All bunches to regroup at stages if required along with a rider's briefing at the beginning of the ride. Safety is paramount and single file riding is the only option during these busy times on our roads.

Mountain biking

TUESDAY: 5:15 pm from the Fire station roundabout (Kupe/Joan Gaskell). Currently, this is either a ride to the top of the 309 Road or the Wade Loop - about 30K's. This ride needs lights in the winter.

SATURDAY: 7:30 am from the Fire station roundabout (Kupe/Joan Gaskell). We will ride something different each Saturday and rides vary from 25K to 60K. Examples would include Castle Rock loop, Pipeline track, Waitai Bay, Hikirangi loop. These rides include a coffee stop to catch up with everyone.

Meet -8 am Fire Station roundabout - Joan Gaskill Drive, Whitianga.

Route - 46km / 550m total elev.

Joan Gaskill / Left at SH25 roundabout / Left at Whenuakite, past Hot Water Beach turn-off, bear left at Hahei/Cathedral Cove intersection towards Purangi Rd, then right at T-junction to Ferry Landing.

$6.50 ferry fare (bike & rider) back over to Whitianga then at 'Jandals Café, beach end of Albert St.

ALTERNATIVE SHORT ROUTE - 38km

After turning left at Whenuakite on SH25, take first left (Purangi Rd) to Cooks Beach and on to Ferry landing.

Whitianga Road Cruisers Group ' Nice and Easy Pace' Average speed - 18/22kph

9 am Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays Meet on the Esplanade - under the tree at the Marina carpark entrance, south end of the Esplanade, Whitianga Route - typically 15-21km flat road around Whitianga township and outskirts. Route varies depending on numbers and abilities.  Finishing - at Jandals Café on Albert Street for around 10 am.                                                            All welcome - Road/Hybrid/MTB and e-Bikes
